Alumni Connections

Brooklyn Law School has a long tradition of minority alumni who were trailblazers.

Some of our noteworthy graduates are: Sumner Lark '16, the first African-American Assistant District Attorney of New York City; Frieda B. Hennock '24, the first female Federal Communications Commissioner; Hon. Henry Bramwell '48, the first African-American judge appointed to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York; Percy E. Sutton '50, the first African-American Manhattan borough president and founder of the media giant Inner City Broadcasting Corporation; Herman Badillo '54, the first U.S. congressman of Puerto Rican origin; Dorothy Chin-Brandt '74, the first Asian-American woman judge in New York State; and Hon. David N. Dinkins '56, the first African-American Mayor of New York City.

  • Nelson Roman '89 is a New York State Supreme Court Associate Justice, Appellate Division, 1st Department.
  • Irene Chang '91 is General Counsel & Secretary for the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation.
  • Ramon E. Reyes, Jr. '92 is a Magistrate Judge of the US District Court, Eastern District of New York.
  • Meeka Jun Bondy '94 is Vice President & Senior Counsel at HBO.
  • Narda Marisa Jones '94 is Division Chief of the Strategic Analysis and Negotiations Division at the Federal Communications Commission.
  • Shawn A. Miles '98 is Group Head of Global Public Policy at MasterCard Worldwide.
  • Frederick E. Curry, III '03 is a Partner at Deloitte Financial Advisory Services LLP.
  • Errol T. Louis, '05 is a columnist at the New York Daily News and an anchor for Inside City Hall on NY1.
