Law of War Seminar

This seminar examines some of the principal legal between nation states. After an initial survey of the general principles and the sources of the law of war, the seminar focuses on the means and conduct of hostilities, the decision-making processes in war, the handling of protected persons and property and the rules applicable to belligerent occupation. The seminar then turns to an examination of the role of inter-national organizations, maintaining neutrality, and the end of hostilities (with a focus on the role of peace-making bodies and war crime tribunals). The seminar concludes with an analysis of recent conflicts.
