Real Estate Transactions: Advanced Issues and Practical Skills Workshop
Pre-requisite: Real Estate Practice
This course is a practical, hands-on seminar for the development of drafting and negotiation skills for real estate practice. It will provide a vigorous dose of reality to the theories and principles of real property law. Students will explore advanced real estate issues in the context of purchase, mortgage, lease and finance transactions. Through a combination of lectures, reading assignments, drafting and negotiation exercises, they will learn what real estate lawyers do, how they do it and why they do it. In addition, they will attempt to resolve typical "deal" problems, disputes and title issues that are common in real estate transactions. The course will also provide an in-depth analysis of Contracts of Sale, Brokerage Agreements, Surveys, Title Insurance Policies, Mortgages and Notes, and leases. Grading and Method of Evaluation
Letter grade only. Students will be graded on contract drafting and other writing assignments during the semester and a final exam.
