Employer Relations Specialists
Jill Backer, Associate Director for Employer Relations
Jill Backer joined the Career Center in July, 2002 following five years in sales and marketing to the legal community. Ms. Backer received her J.D. from Quinnipiac University in 1995, and practiced criminal defense law in Chicago before deciding on a career in sales. Ms. Backer's position does not involve student or alumni counseling. Her work consists entirely of identifying new markets and opportunities in the private sector, and meeting with employers.
Danielle Sorken, Associate Director of Public Service Programs, develops relationships with public sector employers and maintains relationships with over 150 non-profit and government recruiters. Working closely with these employers she develops new internship, pro bono and fellowship positions for BLS students and alumni.
We have set up a counseling-based program dedicated to helping students interested in working in Washington D.C. for the summer and/or in post-graduate positions in the government and non-profit sectors.
Students interested in working in DC meet with the DC Connect advisor in order to formulate a detailed and personalized job search strategy. The DC program is set up to ensure that students are aware of relevant deadlines, and other special requirements including background checks, possible interview questions, and necessary language for targeted resumes and cover letters for various positions.
The DC Connect advisor also serves as a liaison between the students who have secured DC internships and permanent positions.
