Inside Counsel recently profiled an active member of the Law School community, Jeff Gewirtz ’94, who is executive vice president of business affairs and chief legal officer of the Brooklyn Nets and its new arena, the Barclays Center. A national leader in sports law, Gewirtz previously worked for the Women’s Tennis Association, the Ladies Professional Golf Association, and the U.S. Olympic Committee. In 2009, he was named one of the “Forty Under 40” top sports executives by Sports Business Journal.
Gewirtz spoke to Inside Counsel about his role as head of the Nets’ legal team and the experience of rebuilding professional sports in Brooklyn. “The prospect of helping to be part of building this new sports arena and bringing major professional sports back to Brooklyn for the first time since 1957, when the Brooklyn Dodgers left for Los Angeles, was an incredibly enticing opportunity,” he said.
Gewirtz is an active and loyal friend of Brooklyn Law School. He has participated in the Dean’s Roundtable Luncheon program and was honored last year by the Brooklyn Entertainment and Sports Law Society (BESLS). He was also featured in the Spring 2012 issue of BLS LawNotes.
