Summer Housing
Current Brooklyn Law School residents who will be working outside of New
York during the summer months may sublet their Brooklyn Law School residence
hall units, but only with the prior written approval of the Director of
Residence Life, and subject to the requirements listed below. We have set
these requirements in part for the welfare of our students who will be
continuing to occupy the units during the summer months. These include our
graduating students, who are studying for the Bar Examination as well as our
students who are taking summer school classes and working in the City. The
students who are studying for the Bar Exam particularly need quiet
surroundings during this period. The dates for the sublet period are
typically from June 1 - July 31. Some residents will leave sooner than June
1 and the sublet may begin earlier. In addition, some sublets may end in
the beginning of August, but our residents won't find out if they can stay
in the apartment past July 31 until May 15. Each year we guarantee housing
to incoming students who apply by May 1 and then use a lottery to determine
which residents can stay in their apartments for another year. The lottery
results are announced on May 15. The housing charges will be pro-rated if
the sublet period is extended beyond the two-month period.
The subtenant must be a Brooklyn Law School student or a student from another law school who will be working full-time in New York City during the June and July or studying for the July 2008 Bar Exam.
In multiple-bedroom apartments, the subtenant must be of the same gender as the other roommates.
If the sublet ends on July 31, the subtenant must vacate the
apartment no later than 5pm July 31. We need time to prepare the units for
students who will be taking occupancy in August.
The subtenant must be approved by the Director of Residence Life, execute a housing license, and pay all occupancy charges in advance directly to Brooklyn Law School. In addition to the housing charges, the sub-tenant must pay a security deposit, technology fee and utilities. Current residents may not charge a premium to the subtenant.
Brooklyn Law School subsidizes the housing charges for Brooklyn Law School students. Law students from other schools who are interested in subletting should review the housing charges for non-BLS law students using the link below.
