Assistance to the Disabled
The Library has an internal elevator that provides access to all floors of the Library. Disabled students needing assistance with Library equipment and materials should speak to a Reference Librarian.
Cellular Phones
Cellular phones may not be used in the Library reading rooms. Cell phones may only be used in the Library corridors. If you receive a call while in the Library, please move to a corridor immediately so as not to disturb other Library patrons.
Closing: 15-Minute Rule
All Library services end fifteen minutes before the official Library closing. These services include charging out books; computer typing, searching and printing in the computer labs; photocopying, viewing and printing microforms, using CD-ROMs and audio and video cassettes.
Eating, Drinking and Smoking
Food and smoking are prohibited everywhere in the Library at all times. The Library is currently permitting the drinking of beverages in the Library, but only in the specially provided spill-proof mugs or approved substitutes (such approval is at the discretion of the librarians only). Upperclass students have already received their mugs; first year students receive theirs during the first week of school. Visitors wishing to buy a mug, and students needing a replacement mug, may purchase one at the Circulation Desk for $3.00.
This program can only be maintained with the cooperation of everyone; if it is found that students are not willing to comply, the drinking of all beverages other than water will be prohibited. Anyone who violates these rules will be asked to leave the Library. Persistent violators are subject to the loss of Library privileges.
Etiquette
The Library staff works hard to courteously and effectively serve the needs of students in their use of the Library. We also expect courtesy and respect in return from students. If you encounter any problems in your use of the Library, please report them to a librarian.
Fire Alarms
Fire exits are located on all floors of the Library. If a fire alarm goes off, you must leave the Library immediately. Do not use the elevator. Do not return to the Library until instructed to do so.
Furniture
Students are asked not to move or rearrange the furniture. Computer chairs have been placed at the computers throughout the Library. They are not to be moved to other places. Please remember that feet do not belong on tables and carrels.
Noise
Noise in the Library should be kept to a minimum. For group study, there are conference rooms located throughout the Library.
Since the tapping of computer keys disturbs some students, during the reading and exam periods, the use of laptop computers in the Library is restricted to specific reading rooms. Near the end of each semester, signs are posted giving the locations and dates for these restrictions.
Whenever a laptop computer is being used in a reading room, please turn off any noises, bells, whistles, etc., which may be coming from the computer as a courtesy to those studying in the same area.
Security
All Library materials must be signed out at the Circulation Desk before leaving the Library. Failure to do so will set off the Library security system. The Library staff reserves the right to inspect all briefcases, purses, etc. as patrons leave the Library.
Patrons are advised not to leave notebook computers, handbags, briefcases, study materials, etc. unattended in the Library. Unfortunately, we are not immune to theft and other criminal acts.
Shelving
Please abide by the signs for reshelving books that are posted in all stack areas the Library. In areas where we ask that you do not reshelve books, place the books on book trucks for reshelving.
Study Carrels
There are no assigned or reserved study carrels in the library. Library or personal material should not be left in a study carrel in an attempt to reserve the carrel for later use.
