Four hundred and seventy-eight Brooklyn Law School graduates were recognized in the most recent New York Metro edition of Super Lawyers Magazine. On the cover of this year’s print magazine was BLS alumnus Marvin Salenger ’65, a top trial attorney and founding partner of the firm Salenger, Sack, Kimmel & Bavaro. This was the second consecutive year a Law School graduate was featured on the cover; the 2011 issue featured noted criminal defense attorney Gerald Shargel ’69.
The magazine, which features profiles of Salenger and Robert Sack ’65, lists attorneys in each state who receive the highest number of points in an extensive ratings system based on twelve indicators of peer recognition and independent research. The number of Brooklyn Law School graduates who were recognized this year increased by 46 percent from last year’s total of 326.
In the category of up and coming “New York Rising Stars,” 53 BLS graduates appeared. In addition, seven of the “Top 50 Women” recognized by Super Lawyers in this year’s list are Brooklyn Law School alumnae: Colleen Caden ’99, Harriet Newman Cohen ’74, Barbara Kaplan ’75, Ellen Makofsky ’85, Eileen Nugent ’78, Jane Stevens ’77, and Lynne Fischman Uniman ’79. Cohen and Stevens also appeared on the “Top 100” list, along with Shargel, David Aronson ’74, Dennis Block ’67, Bruce Fader ’74, Howard Hershenhorn ’89, and Harvey Weitz ’54.
Only five percent of the lawyers in New York are recognized by Super Lawyers for attaining a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. Super Lawyers is published as a supplement in leading newspapers throughout the country and is recognized as an important publication among those in the legal field, reaching more than 13 million readers.
