MPRE and MBE
For information about any state bar examinations and the MPRE, visit the National Conference of Bar Examiners Web site at www.ncbex.org.
Bar Loans
If possible, you should first borrow a Graduate Plus Loan if you need a loan to meet the costs associated with the bar prep course, bar exam, and living expenses while studying for the bar. If you have already borrowed a Graduate Plus Loan up to your cost of attendance for this academic year, you may request a budget adjustment. Contact Janet Solomon or Florence Attino in the Office of Financial Aid if you would like to discuss whether you are eligible for a budget adjustment. A Graduate Plus Loan must be certified during the academic year, so you should apply for this loan by April 15.
If you are unable to secure additional Graduate Plus funds, private Bar Loans are still offered by a few lenders. These loans are not federally guaranteed, so the credit criteria required for approval is much higher than federal loans. The interest rate on a bar loan is higher than a federal loan and the rate is variable rather than fixed. The repayment options are less appealing than repayment on a federal loan. However, if this is your only alternative, please contact the Office of Financial Aid to find out which lenders are currently offering bar loans. A bar loan is disbursed directly to the student.
