Coding for Lawyers: A Three-Part Course in Website Building & Design

Thursdays, July 20, July 27 and August 3
6 to 8 p.m.

Brooklyn Law School's Center for Urban Business Entrepreneurship (CUBE) invites alumni to participate in a three-part coding class. This program, which meets weekly, will provide lawyers with the practical knowledge and skills to build and design a website.

Three-Part Course Details

Thursday, July 20
HTML: This two-hour session will serve as an introduction to the language of the web while walking participants through the process of building a simple website for a legal practice. At the end of the session, each participant should understand the rudiments of basic HTML coding, and be able to build a website, be it for a legal practice or another venture.

Thursday, July 27
CSS Part I: Building upon the knowledge that HTML is used to create the structure and content of a web page, this session will highlight how CSS works to apply styles, color, and page layout designs to produce an engaging website appearance. The session will introduce the most commonly used styling techniques and how to implement them.

Thursday, August 3
CSS Part II: This session will be devoted to learning specific techniques and refinements that take full advantage of the way HTML and CSS work hand in hand to produce a web page rich in design. If time permits, this session will also include an introduction to how web pages can be made to interact with users via javascript.

All classes meet in the computer lab in the lower level of the Brooklyn Law School library and will be taught by Lloyd Carew-Reid, Technology Educator and Manager of Brooklyn Law School’s Tech Ed Lab, and Phil Weiss ’12, Partner at Fridman Law Group and Adjunct Professor of Clinical Law.
