Edward V. Sparer Public Interest Law Forum - Who Watches the Watchers?: Surveillance and the Law
About the Forum
Surveillance technology is playing an increasing role in the immigration, family regulation, and criminal systems. As a result, protestors, low-income neighborhood residents, and marginalized people are watched more frequently and more invasively than ever before. Law enforcement entities continue to weaponize advances in technology to further monitor and control certain communities.
The annual Sparer Forum will address these topics. This event, sponsored by the Edward V. Sparer Public Interest Fellowship, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Chapter at Brooklyn Law School, Brooklyn Law School Legal Hackers, and the Brooklyn Law School National Lawyers Guild will gather experts and advocates to address these questions. The panelists will speak about unfair data collection, and how lawyers can effectively represent clients in the face of a growing surveillance state. The discussion will also include reform and activism efforts.

Brooklyn Law School alumnus Professor Edward V. Sparer was one of the leading poverty lawyers in this country. The Edward V. Sparer Public Interest Law Fellowship Program was established in 1986 to honor him and encourage law students and lawyers to carry on his legacy. Learn more about the Sparer Fellowship Program.
Visitor COVID-19 Vaccination Policies and Guidelines
Only guests with proof of a primary COVID-19 vaccination series with an FDA-authorized or WHO-listed vaccine may visit the main Law School building (250 Joralemon St.) or our high-rise residential building, Feil Hall (205 State St.). One-time visitors and guests who wish to attend in-person events are also required to provide the security guard on duty at the Law School with proof of vaccination and current identification (including your name, photo, and date of birth).
