Frank Aquila ’83, a partner at Sullivan & Cromwell and Vice Chairman of the Brooklyn Law School Board of Trustees, has been recognized by the Financial Times as one of the “FT Top 10 legal innovators for North America.” Aquila, whose work focuses on mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance, is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading M&A lawyers.

“One of the most influential and high-profile M&A and corporate governance lawyers in the [United States], Frank Aquila has played a role in many of the largest and most complex deals the firm has handled,” the Financial Times noted. “He joined Sullivan & Cromwell 35 years ago and, in addition to his active practice, is a member of its management committee.”

Aquila was featured in the Spring 2018 issue of Brooklyn Law Notes highlighting prominent alumni who are leading on many of the biggest transactions in the M&A market. His major deals include InBev’s successful unsolicited bid for Anheuser-Busch and its follow-on acquisitions of Grupo Modelo and SABMiller; Kraft in its merger with Heinz to form The Kraft Heinz Company, which was recognized in the 2015 FT North American Innovative Lawyers Report; Diebold in its merger with Wincor Nixdorf; Panera Bread in its acquisition by JAB; and Andeavor in its combination with Marathon Petroleum.

Last year, Aquila spoke about his career with Richard Hsu on the podcast Hsu Untied. Listen here.
