Develop career skills in public service

The Public Service Law Center is here to help you through the process of finding internships, jobs, and other ways to develop your skills and expertise. The PSLC provides mentorship through the job search process, assistance with post-graduate fellowships, and help obtaining summer funding.

Mentorship

The PSLC meets with students one-on-one as they develop a public service resume, cover letters, and a comprehensive career plan. The PSLC regularly meets with NYC-area government and nonprofit employers and can suggest ones that might be good fits for students and give insight into what employers are looking for. The PSLC also reviews students’ resumes and cover letters and helps them prepare for interviews.

Summer Funding

Brooklyn Law School offers many sources of funding that allow students to both take unpaid public service internships and cover their living expenses. Students can also contact the Public Service Law Center for information on additional non-BLS summer funding opportunities.

Post-Graduate Fellowships

Each year, Brooklyn Law School students obtain externally-funded postgraduate fellowships—positions intended for new lawyers—in a variety of areas. Recent Brooklyn Law School graduates have received the following fellowships:

  • New York State Excelsior Service Fellowship
  • Equal Justice Works Design-Your-Own Fellowship
  • Immigrant Justice Corps Justice Fellowship
