Natalie Chin

Biography

Natalie Chin is Assistant Professor of Clinical Law and Faculty Director of the Disability and Civil Rights Clinic. She was most recently a Clinical Teaching Fellow in the Guardianship Clinic at Cardozo School of Law, where she taught a seminar on Article 81 Guardianship law and its intersection with housing rights, public benefits, and disability rights and supervised law students representing clients in all aspects of guardianship and related proceedings in state and federal court.

Prior to her teaching career, Professor Chin was a devoted public interest attorney.  She has litigated cases and led education and policy reform efforts to achieve equal rights for LGBT people and individuals living with HIV, with an emphasis on LGBT and HIV aging issues.  Her litigation also includes cases that affect people with mental health disabilities and the elderly, as well as those involving violations of the Fourth and Fourteenth Amendments.

Professor Chin’s scholarship focuses on discrimination and the aging LGBT population, with articles published in Aging Today and the Clearinghouse Review: Journal of Poverty Law and Policy. She is also a leader in the LGBT community. She is on the advisory committee of the New York City Anti-Violence Project and is Co-Chair of the Board at FIERCE, a grassroots organization that develops leadership skills among queer young people of color. Before becoming an attorney, Professor Chin was a journalist reporting in California and Johannesburg, South Africa, where she focused on urban affairs for the Sowetan Sunday World.
