Biography

Alberto Rodriguez is an Assistant Professor of Legal Writing. He began teaching legal writing as a Lecturer-in-Law at Columbia Law School in the fall of 2011. At Columbia Law School, he taught classes on brief-writing, oral advocacy and fundamental lawyering skills. Professor Rodriguez also served as the faculty advisor to the Latinx Law Students Association’s specialized moot court program focusing on refugee and asylum law.

Professor Rodriguez’s legal writing instruction is informed by his extensive litigation experience representing individuals, corporations and government agencies in a wide range of cases, including securities class actions, bankruptcy cases and employment disputes. He began his legal career as a litigation associate in the New York office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, LLP. Professor Rodriguez developed a broad labor and employment law practice working as an Assistant Corporation Counsel representing the City of New York and its agencies and as Counsel in the labor and employment group of Seyfarth Shaw LLP. Most recently, he was a Supervising Attorney prosecuting employment discrimination cases at the New York City Commission on Human Rights. 

Professor Rodriguez speaks Spanish and is a proud first-generation lawyer. He endeavors to foster an inclusive learning environment where students of all backgrounds feel comfortable expressing their unique points of view and finding their voice and purpose as legal advocates.

Professor Rodriguez’s scholarship interests include labor and employment law, diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, and the intersection of civil rights and technology. Professor Rodriguez received his B.A. in political science from Stanford University and his J.D. from Columbia Law School.
