Advanced Legal Analysis

This course focuses on analyzing one of several recurring themes across many disciplines of law (options vary by professor): (1) legal and equitable principles, (2) heightened duties in the law, or (3) (pending approval) selected issues in ethics. It reviews, builds on, and reinforces concepts from across the curriculum with an emphasis on developing an interdisciplinary understanding of rights and responsibilities that certain actors owe each other in the legal system as well as practical skills in analysis and argument. The aim of the course is to assist students in developing the foundational skills necessary to assimilate, synthesize, and apply doctrinal learning more effectively in response to hypothetical scenarios, problems, different genres of questions, and writing projects in a variety of settings, including in law school courses, in professional law practice, and on the bar exam. (Students not mandated to enroll in ALA may petition Professor Dizon to enroll in this class, space permitting.)

Grading and method of evaluation:
Letter grade only. No pass-fail option. Students will be graded on weekly assignments, class participation, a midterm with bar exam-style essay and multiple choice, and a final exam with bar exam-style performance writing.
