Prospect Park Alliance, 95 Prospect Park West, Brooklyn, NY 11215
Known as Brooklyn’s backyard, Prospect Park is essential to the health and well-being of millions of community members and is a critical habitat for hundreds of species of plants and wildlife. Volunteers will assist with an essential maintenance project to help keep Prospect Park’s 500+ acres of gardens and natural areas beautiful!
Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy, 334 Furman St., Brooklyn, NY 11201
Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy plays a vital role in creating and energizing this community-focused, world-class urban oasis on the Brooklyn waterfront. Volunteers will work on an essential horticulture park maintenance under the beautiful Brooklyn Bridge. Come beautify the community park while enjoying incredible views of our city!
The Campaign Against Hunger – Saratoga Urban Agro-Ecological Center, 1965-1971 Fulton St., Brooklyn, NY 11233
Students will volunteer at the hoophouse, a structure that helps to extend the growing season by using heat from the sun to keep crops alive during colder weather. The Saratoga Urban Agro-Ecological Center has become the perfect setting for teaching important farming skills, as the warmer climate provided by the hoophouse allows gardening classes on the farm throughout the winter. Student volunteers will assist staff with planting, weeding, seeding, bed preparations, harvesting, ploughing fields, removing manure and more.
CHiPS, 200 4th Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11217
Based in the Park Slope/Gowanus community of Brooklyn, the mission of CHiPS is twofold: to eliminate food insecurity and homelessness in New York City. CHiPS volunteers will assist with providing guests with meals and other services.
Downtown Brooklyn Public Improvement, 383 Bridge St., Brooklyn, NY 11201
Downtown Brooklyn Partnership is a not-for-profit local development corporation that serves as the primary champion for Downtown Brooklyn as a world-class business, cultural, educational, residential, and retail destination. Students will be helping with Downtown Brooklyn’s Asphalt Art project. The work will consist of priming and painting one of the pedestrian areas on Bridge Street that was recently damaged due to street work.
Big Reuse Street Tree Care, 130 Liberty Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11212
Big Reuse is a NYC environmental non-profit using zero waste initiatives to fight climate change including the reuse center, community composting, environmental outreach and green job training. Students will spend the morning beautifying street trees in East New York, Brooklyn.
