Professor Miriam Baer Elected to Membership in American Law Institute

Professor Miriam Baer has been elected to membership in the American Law Institute. ALI is the leading independent organization in the United States producing scholarly work to clarify, modernize, and otherwise improve the law.

The Institute – composed of 2,900 lawyers, judges, and law professors – drafts, discusses, revises, and publishes Restatements of the Law, model statutes, and principles of law that are influential in the courts and legislatures, as well as in legal scholarship and education.

In April 2015 Baer was invited by ALI to serve as an adviser on the project “Principles of the Law, Compliance, Enforcement, and Risk Management for Corporations, Nonprofits, and Other Organizations.” Professor James Fanto, also an ALI member, served as an Associate reporter on the project.

In addition to Baer and Fanto, other Brooklyn Law School faculty serving as ALI members include Dean Nicholas Allard and Professors William D. Araiza, Anita Bernstein, Dana Brakman Reiser, I. Bennett Capers, Neil B. Cohen, Marsha Garrison, Edward J. Janger, Beryl R. Jones-Woodin, Roberta S. Karmel, Brian A. Lee, Samuel K. Murumba, Elizabeth M. Schneider, Winnie F. Taylor, and Aaron D. Twerski, as well as Professors Emeriti William E. Hellerstein, Norman S. Poser, and Joan G. Wexler.

Baer teaches in the areas of corporate law, white collar crime, criminal law, and criminal procedure. Her scholarship, which focuses on organizational wrongdoing in public and private settings, has twice been selected for the prestigious Stanford-Yale-Harvard Junior Faculty Forum and for the American Law and Economic Association’s Annual Meeting. She has published her work in many journals, including the Columbia Law Review, Michigan Law Review, Virginia Law Review and Yale Law Journal Online, among others.
