Moya O’Connor ’09 Named to Network Journal’s 40 Under Forty
Moya O’Connor ’09 was recently named to the list of 40 Under Forty Achievement Award honorees for 2017 by The Network Journal, a magazine for black professionals and small businesses. She was recognized with the other honorees at the 20th annual awards dinner on June 15.
O’Connor recently joined MetLife as senior trial attorney after several years as trial counsel at Liberty Mutual Insurance. In 2014, she founded the professional organization Caribbean Attorneys Network, which provides professional development and networking for attorneys, law students, and other legal professionals of Caribbean descent – her family is originally from Jamaica. The organization, based in New York City, has grown to more than 500 members with a robust social media presence and several events each year.
“The goal is to expand to other states, and we just introduced our new board, which includes a member in Chicago,” said O’Connor, who also serves as the organization’s CEO. “We plan to have an event there in the next year, and to expand to Washington, D.C., as well. We’d like to be a worldwide organization.”
O’Connor is also a member of the New York City Bar Association and the Metropolitan Black Bar Association. She is a frequent speaker and has been published in the New York State Bar Association Torts, Insurance, & Compensation Section Law Journal.
The 40 Under Forty Achievement Awards were created to recognize young African-Americans who perform highly in their industries and contribute to their communities. This year’s class will be profiled in the summer 2017 issue of The Network Journal.
