Andrew Zobler ’87 Named to Bloomberg 50 List of Global Business Leaders

Andrew Zobler ’87, founder and CEO of the Sydell Group, a real estate development company, has been named to the 2017 Bloomberg 50, the business publication’s annual list of the people who “define global business.”

Zobler was recognized for his significant contributions to the skylines of New York City, Los Angeles, and London. In April, his company played a major role in renaming the Midland Bank building in London as “the Ned” and turning it into a luxury hotel with a spa, restaurant, and members-only club.

The Ned transformation was inspired by two of Zobler’s biggest New York City hotel projects: The Ace and the NoMad. In January, Zobler will open a second NoMad hotel, this one in downtown Los Angeles. This spring, he will begin work on a $450 million renovation of the Park MGM in Las Vegas, which will become the third and biggest NoMad hotel.

Zobler founded the Sydell Group in 2005. In addition to NoMad and Ace, some of its biggest brands include the Freeland Chicago, The LINE Los Angeles, Saguaro Palm Springs, and Saguaro Scottsdale. Before founding the company, Zobler was a partner, executive vice president, chief investment officer, and general counsel of hotel and residential development company Andre Balazs Properties. He also has worked with Lazard Freres Real Estate Investors and Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, and served as a partner in the real estate group at Greenberg Traurig.
