Dean Nick Allard Delivers Keynote at St. Francis College Charter Day
Dean Nick Allard delivered the keynote address on April 27 at St. Francis College’s Charter Day Convocation, which commemorates the 134th anniversary of the chartering of the Brooklyn-based school. The event also honored academic award winners from the St. Francis Class of 2018, including new inductees into the college’s Duns Scotus Honor Society.
Introduced by Linda Werbel-Dashefsky ‘97, the college’s vice president of government and community relations, Allard told the students they have an opportunity amid numerous challenges to seize the moment and build a better world.
“Be heroes who we can hang lanterns over to lead and guide us,” Allard said. “Be teachers to show us how to achieve our worthy goals. And engage in efforts to benefit more than yourself, in other words, be civil. In the spirit of St. Francis: Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.”
Allard praised the leadership of St. Francis president Miguel Martinez-Saenz and the college’s strong commitment to advancing the Franciscan values of service and compassion.
“I have no doubt that the people of St. Francis College will continue to lead the way forward, as they have for more than 150 years,” he said. “At the forefront, you are sure to meet the students and graduates of Brooklyn Law School, who are using the power of their legal educations to make a positive difference.”
