Professor Andrew Gold, an Expert in Corporate Law, Fiduciary Law and Private Law Theory, Joins the Faculty
Professor Andrew Gold, an expert in corporate law, fiduciary law, and private law theory (including contract theory, tort theory, and property theory), has joined the Law School faculty from DePaul University College of Law, where he taught since 2004. His teaching focuses on Business Organizations, Corporate Finance, Securities Fraud, and Jurisprudence.
"I’m excited to join the distinguished faculty at Brooklyn Law School,” Gold said. “The students, faculty, and administration have an energy and an interest in the law that is second to none, and the location in the heart of Brooklyn offers so many incredible opportunities and resources. Also, I was born in Brooklyn—so for me, this feels a lot like a homecoming."
Gold received DePaul College of Law's Award for Excellence in Scholarship in 2007 and 2013 and the Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2010. He previously has been the Bruce W. Nichols Visiting Professor at Harvard Law School; an HLA Hart Visiting Fellow at the University of Oxford; and a Fulbright Visiting Research Chair at McGill University. He is a co-founder of the North American Workshop on Private Law Theory.
Gold writes extensively on Fiduciary and Corporate Law. His work has been published in the Northwestern University Law Review, the University of Toronto Law Journal, the William and Mary Law Review, and the Michigan Law Review. He is co-editor of Philosophical Foundations of Fiduciary Law (Oxford University Press 2014), as well as several additional volumes, including: Contract, Status, and Fiduciary Law (Oxford University Press 2016); Research Handbook on Fiduciary Law (Elgar, forthcoming 2018); and Fiduciary Government (Cambridge University Press, forthcoming 2018).
Gold holds a J.D. from Duke University and B.A. in English and Philosophy from Dartmouth College. Following law school, Gold clerked with Judge Daniel Manion of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and with Judge Loren Smith of the U.S. Court of Federal Claims. He then practiced corporate litigation for Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP before joining the DePaul faculty.
