On MSNBC, Professor Miriam Baer Shares Insights on SDNY Probe of Guiliani

As news broke that former Texas Congressman Pete Sessions was being subpoenaed by a federal grand jury in New York over his interactions with former Mayor Rudy Guiliani, Professor Miriam Baer, an expert in criminal law and former Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York, shared her insights on the SDNY’s criminal probe of Guiliani with The Beat with Ari Melber on MSNBC.

“The world for Mr. Guiliani has changed remarkably in even just a week,” said Baer of the attorney to President Trump. “The Southern District of New York is investigating…other contacts he had…in the Ukraine, and those behaviors are not going to be easily tucked away” because there is financial evidence, which is held by third parties.

“[The SDNY] is acting slowly and deliberately, which is exactly the way you would expect them to act,” she commented further in reference to the subpoenas that have issued to Sessions and others.

At the Law School, Baer is associate director of the Center for the Study of Business Law and Regulation and teaches in the areas of corporate law, white collar crime, criminal law, and criminal procedure. She has been an ongoing commentator on legal issues related to the Mueller investigation. Her paper, Sorting out White Collar Crime, has recently been published in the Texas Law Review.
