Faculty Share Expertise, Receive Honors at AALS Annual Meeting
Over a dozen Brooklyn Law School faculty members presented or moderated panels at the 114th Association of American Law Schools (AALS) Annual Meeting, Jan. 2-5, in Washington, D.C., where Professors Anita Bernstein and Susan Hazeldean were honored for exceptional work in their fields.
The theme of this year’s meeting, which drew thousands of law school faculty, deans, administrators, and scholars from around the country, was Pillars of Democracy: Law, Representation & Knowledge. The contingent of faculty from the Law School, led by Dean Michael Cahill, shared their expertise and discussed the latest developments in their respective areas of focus in legal education at sessions throughout the four-day meeting.
Bernstein was honored with the 2020 William L. Prosser Award by the Section on Torts and Compensation Systems, which recognizes “outstanding contributions of law teachers in scholarship, teaching, and service” related to torts and compensation systems. She is the second Brooklyn Law faculty member to receive this highly prestigious award, following Professor Aaron Twerski in 2016. Hazeldean, founder and director of the Law School’s LGBT Advocacy Clinic, was awarded the inaugural LGBTQ+ Inclusive Excellence Award from the Section on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Issues.
