Brooklyn Law School Faculty Ranked 33rd in the Nation for Scholarly Excellence

Brooklyn Law School’s faculty ranks 33rd in the nation for scholarly impact, according to the newly released version of the study conducted every three years by Professor Greg Sisk and colleagues at the University of St. Thomas School of Law, as reported in Brian Leiter’s Law School Reports. The scholarly impact score “is calculated from the mean and the median of total law journal citations over the past five years to the work of tenured faculty members.”

According to the study, the top 10 most-cited tenured professors at Brooklyn Law School were (in alphabetical order) Professors William Araiza, Miriam Baer, Anita Bernstein, Andrew Gold, Edward Janger, Roberta Karmel, Frank Pasquale, Alice Ristroph, Elizabeth Schneider, Jocelyn Simonson, and Lawrence Solan. Notably, Pasquale was ranked as the third most-cited scholar in law and technology.

“Our already impressive ranking has moved up 11 places since Sisk’s last study, confirming that our faculty’s work is not only excellent, but that it is read and relied upon,” said Dean Michael T. Cahill. “We have many established scholars who are longstanding members of the faculty, but we should credit several lateral additions, Andrew Gold, Frank Pasquale, and Alice Ristroph, as well as some rising stars, who, while recently tenured, are already widely recognized in their fields.”

“This reflects a commitment throughout the school to producing scholarship that matters,” said Professor Edward Janger, Associate Dean for Faculty Research and Scholarship. “More important, we’re looking forward to sharing soon what our ‘not yet tenured’ faculty have in store.”

For four years, Brooklyn Law School faculty have also been on Leiter’s list of the year’s top 10 most notable lateral moves, and individual faculty members have been singled out as top-cited scholars in their fields.
