The Hollywood Reporter has ranked Brooklyn Law School as No. 9 on its annual list of the top 12 law schools for aspiring entertainment lawyers.

The publication based its rankings, which were published April 18, on a combination of factors, including alumni who are on its Power Lawyers list and the availability of new and novel courses, externship programs, and other offerings that give students an edge in breaking into careers in the entertainment industry.

“Brooklyn offers a certificate in Intellectual Property, Media, and Information Law, and a specialized sports law externship course where students are placed at local sports teams, league headquarters, and agencies,” the THR report said. “In response to the true-crime boom, it held a panel on defamation in biopics.”

Brooklyn Law School was tied for ninth place with the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School.

The alumnus named on the Power Lawyers list was Andrew Brettler ’05, partner at Berk Brettler LLP. According to the THR report, Brettler has in the past year helped Lindsay Lohan resolve her crypto trouble with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission; defended Sydney Sweeney in a dispute with LA Collective over a failed swimwear deal, and led Chelsea Handler’s suit against ThirdLove for backing out of an ad campaign. He has also advised Armie Hammer, Tiffany Haddish, and writer Elisabeth Finch.

Brooklyn Law has made the list multiple times over the last decade, most recently in 2019, when Brettler also made the list and Allen Grubman ’67, senior partner, Grubman Shire Meiselas & Sacks, was named a “Legal Legend” by the publication. The news also dovetails with Brooklyn Law School’s appearance on Billboard’s list of the Leading Schools for Music Attorneys, where it ranked as No. 2.
