Brooklyn Law School Ranks 29th in Nationwide Scholarly Impact Ranking
The scholarly culture of Brooklyn Law School faculty continued its upward trajectory with the release of the triennial Scholarly Impact Ranking for U.S. law schools, which ranked Brooklyn Law School at No. 29.
The full study, released on Aug. 20 and reported on Brian Leiter’s Law School Reports, is the work of Professor Greg Sisk and colleagues at the University of St. Thomas School of Law in Minnesota, who produce the ranking of scholarly distinction and accomplishment only once every three years. Brooklyn Law School has been steadily climbing in the ranking. It was in a three-way tie at No. 33 in the most recent previous ranking, in 2021, and was ranked 44th in the 2018 ranking.
Viewed as one of the most accurate metrics of scholarly distinction and accomplishment, the highly anticipated ranking measures which legal scholars have their work cited the most by their peers in law review articles. The score itself is derived from the mean and median citations to tenured faculty’s articles over the past five years. The mean citation count for BLS faculty in the new ranking is 132 and the median is 110 (up from 126 and 86, respectively, in the 2021 ranking).
“Brooklyn Law School’s scholarly impact rating demonstrates how the work of our faculty continues to influence scholarship, law, and policy around the country, year after year,” said Jocelyn Simonson, Professor of Law and Associate Dean for Research and Scholarship. “Within the Law School, we are well aware of the brilliant thinking and writing that happens among our faculty, and the ways in which these ideas have impact in the real world. To see the power of BLS’s faculty scholarship confirmed in the Sisk rankings underscores this collective impact.”
Professor Simonson is herself among the 10 most-cited professors at Brooklyn Law School, as indicated by the Sisk study.
The other most-cited professors are (in alphabetical order) as follows: Stanley A. August Professor of Law William D. Araiza; Vice Dean and Centennial Professor of Law Miriam H. Baer; Anita and Stuart Subotnick Professor of Law Anita Bernstein; Professor of Law Cynthia Godsoe; David M. Barse Professor of Law Edward J. Janger; Don Forchelli Professor of Law Catherine Y. Kim; Les Fagen Professor of Law Alice Ristroph; Professor of Law Anna Roberts; and Rose L. Hoffer Professor of Law Elizabeth M. Schneider.
